Summary
Solar power was once a thing of the future, and of the unlikely future at that, part of the technobabble that found it's way on to shows like 'Beyond 2000' (yep, we're showing our age). Most of us though, can probably remember hearing about the solar industry being one that was impractical and extremely expensive. Most available solar panels did not produce enough electricity to be anywhere near cost effective. But solar technology has come a long way since then.
